I have been told over the years that the Taino Indian is extinct. I find it hard to believe, is it true?

I'm sure some Cubans do have Taino blood, but the populations of most Caribbean nation are not indigenous. They are usually mixed and mostly of African descent. The combination of Spanish brutality and European disease pretty much eliminated most of the native populations of the islands.

There are plenty of people in new York City with Taino blood. Maybe they mean the culture is extinct
