dude, google the answer!!! and yes u can get the person's ip address if ur chatting with them, when ur sending a file through messenger open up ur command propmt immediately and type netstat, then ull find the other persons ip address. An IP address is a unique number that devices use in order to identify and communicate with each other on a computer network utilizing the Internet Protocol standard. Not to be harsh but if ur intention is to hack then this is not the way to start. Hackers do their own research!!!

The methods I know are illegal, so I'd rather not share them.

A person's IP is a unique, exclusive number with 4 parts, each seperated by a dot. Each part has a value ranging from 0 to 255. ISPs and domains purchase and register IP addresses, then assign them to various things.

Various assignments of IP:

Dynamic IP: An ISP will assign one of their IP addresses to a user when they log on to the internet. The user's IP will change each time they log on.

Static IP: Domains such as Yahoo and Google have mail, web, and DNS servers, amongst others. Each of these is assigned a static IP, which will not change unless the domain manager chooses to change it. When you enter a web address, the DNS server resolves the name to the IP address of the domain's web server. So when you're connecting to www.yahoo.com, you're actually connecting to an IP address using HTTP.

The IP address plays a vital role in networking and the internet. Without it, routers would have no idea where to send data packets when they're requested, or make requests to a web or other type of server when needed.

Depending on chat program you are using, you may be able to find the IP address of the other person with a help of NETSTAT program. if you are using Win XP, go to RUN ->cmd->netstat.

IP address is in general a unique number that is assigned to any device connected to the Internet.

IP means Internet Protocal. It is similar to the street address system. It directs packets and infromation to flow across the internet to your address (IP). If you are behind a router, you can check the logs of WAN* IP's that have connected to your computer. Guess and Check one could be the one you are looking for. www.Whatismyip.com is a site to find your own IP.

if you know someone's IP adress , it may not help you further , if its not a static IP. most IP's are dynamic IP's , they change every session.

You can't, unless they have an active connection to your computer. Even then, it would be a guess.
