I don't really like it. I need to start exercising myself. (I'm not fat or anything, I just could use a little exercise.) I think that people should be more active, and not sit around as much.

I think Obesity amongst teens has spread for several reasons:
1. Many women have to work outside the home, so there is less time left for home cooked meals. In fact, many modern women do not even know how to cook. Thus, the reliance on junk food.
2. Less time for outdoor family activities means less exercise.
3. Couch potatoes!
4. Fat kids are mocked by other kids and not chosen to participate in teams sports. Many do not get to learn even if they have the desire.
5. Being an outsider can lead to depression, which in turns makes some people want to eat more. It becomes a vicious cycle. Our culture's obsession with "supermodel" beauty standards doesn't help either. I remember thinking I was fat in high school and I was a size 9 and weight 123 pounds. Crazy!
Sadly, the pressure to be thin can drive some teens to develop life-threatening eating disorders like bulimia and anorexia. Think about it. Those who need to exercise the most would rather die than go to a gym or put on a bathing suit and learn to swim at a pool for fear of rejection and cruelty by their peers.
In an ideal world, people who are fit would show compassion and offer to help those who are fat and want to get fit. Unfortunately, that is not the norm.
As I overheard a kid say once: "You take up too much space!"
P.S: Aside from genetic predispositions, those who are addicted to food are usually eating to numb the pain of a serious personal problem. They could have gone/be going through a traumatic and/or very stressful experience. Counseling can help.

Well, see, I'm fat. I know I am. I would like to say that it's all genetics and that everyone in my family is fat. That's not it. For me, it isn't genetics. For me, it's a lifestyle. My parents raised me the way their parents raised them. Their parents raised them the way their grandparents raised their parents. It's an unhealthy lifestyle, not a genetic problem.
I am currently trying to become more fit. I am not trying to "get skinny" or "drop some sizes". I could care less about that. What I am doing is working on reteaching myself how to have a healthy lifestyle and lead a healthy life. I exercise every other day at our local gym (paid for by my stepmother) and I watch what I eat. I don't starve myself, weigh myself everyday, or look in the mirror and scrutinize every body part. I just go through a checklist every morning when I am in the bathroom after brushing my teeth. I tell myself this:
1. I am changing my lifestyle.
2. It is hard.
3. It takes time.
4. It takes effort.
5. I will cry and my body will fight the change.
6. I will learn to accept my body because you can't change something you don't accept.
7. I will become emotionally stronger everyday.
8. I will reach my finish line.
It is working. I have lost a total of 4 pounds, but have become stronger in the arms, legs, and abdomen, and I have experienced a greater endurance level. I feel better than ever. The hardest part was stepping foot in that gym the very first time and trying not to let my mind talk myself out of it. I let my body take control and have let it have control since January 28 when I began this journey. I just wish that other overweight teenagers had the support I had. You have to want it though. No one can force you too fix yourself. You have to want to bad enough, and you have to want it for the right reasons.

unfortunately for some people it's genetic. obesity for the rest of the population, however, is controllable. it's a shame if they were raised on Popsicles and chocolate bars, but obesity is a choice. they are the only ones who can stop it. I hear people complain about being fat. If you don't like it, change it. I don't condemn those who are obese. I'm sure it's difficult to loose weight, and that it's hard to be obese. I just don't wanna hear complaints. exercise and eat right. if you do that then get a support group and you won't feel the need to complain.

It is bad. being an overweight teen myself, I really wish someone had taken the initiative when i was younger to teach me to eat healthy. I am working on losing weight but its pretty hard. Being obese isnt fun and people, in my opinion, should be more sensitive to peoples feelings who are obsese. Alot of times we cant help it because of genetics and what we were brought up eating in our family household. Skinny people are often cruel to overweight people and it is rude and socially unexceptable.

Think if they don't control their eating you don't get any dates.
Guys don't like fat chicks. The other girls make fun of you and life is hell. I watch everything i eat [16] and weigh every day.
If I see 120 lbs. I watch that day and practically don't eat.
At 5' 4" I weigh 119 pounds. That's perfect if it wasn't I would do something about it. Don't eat french fries, chips, cokes or junk food. Me and my friends bake a chicken and eat the whole thing.
We top it off with pieces of apple. But we got dates.
