I know a 16 - year - old who will be turning 17 in early July but they have yet to get thier permit. I would like to know if they still have to hold it for six months as if they were 16. Or is it less

Hi, well for your job problem you could start off somewhere small, maybe a restaurant, food place, and then you'd have some experience or you could volunteer for a couple of weeks, school made me do so for 3. And that'd be experience too. So volunteer or start off small to prove you're committed and hard working. For your home that's definately expensive but if you're going to live with you gf then won't she pay some? You could ask your parents if they'll contribute. You could get a mortgage, but really you're gonna need that job. There's a loan option but you'd need to prove you're worthy and you don't wanna get into debt. As for your liscence, you said you're waiting to take the test so isn't that just a matter of time? Keep retaking the test if you fail and in the meantime use cheap transport where possible, buses, trains and make sure you have a pass. I understand why you want to have your life sorted but if for some reason that doesn't work out in the time you've set for yourself, it's okay, things take time and I'm sure you're gf will wait and support you wanting start your lives together right. Do things in the right order, get a job asap, close to home if possible or with public transport access, while working you can work on your liscence and when you've got enough exp move onto better things, to suit your interests and more of an income. When you have some money talk to your gf about buying a house (together?). Good luck. :) Jess

Depends on the state that you are from. Also, you can look it up at www.dmv.org. Then just look for the Driver's Handbook, it should say in there.
