At 18 you are a legal adult. Providing that you have good credit, or at least, not bad credit, and a proof of income you can get an apartment. I don't recommend you coming here to Boston, though. You need five roommates and can't afford to eat (okay, a little bitter from the college days). Anyway, I love it here but it is not the most cost-effective place to live.

Good luck! Living on your own is fun!

Yes, and 18 year old person can get an apartment, however, you might need a co-signer. Most 'nicer' apartments require a credit check, some a background check, and employment history. Your income should be at least four times the monthly rent amount, so that can be a problem as well.

As for the cheapest place to live, most northern states, rural areas are fairly inexpensive... pretty much any rural area will be cheaper then city, but then, will you be able to have a job in a small town/rural area.

Large cities can be reasonable, but be careful shopping for an apartment over the phone/internet, it may look great on paper/photos, but actually be in a bad part of town. If you find something reasonable, in the city, and want crime stats, call the sheriff/police department, and they can assist.

Hope that helps.

Yes-make sure you get a receipt evertime you pay the rent. Also, like the other people said-read your lease agreement carefully.

Make sure when you leave that the landlord returns your deposit (most landlord require a month or two rent prior to leasing the apt).

Videotape the apt prior to moving your stuff in so that the landlord can not say that you damaged the place while your living there or when you about to leave. Lastly, make sure you show in the videotape any parts of the apartment that need repair. If the repaire becomes a bigger expense later, then they can not blame it on you....

Nationally 18 is legal age for everything but drinking and smoking - which is state regulated.

The cheapest places to live are outside of metropolitan areas. If you want to get PAID, live outside a metro area and commute there, or perform an essential service - such as medical or legal.

Good luck!

you could not sign a hire till you're 18. even however, a landlord will settle for the signature of your parent on the hire. I hire residences to college pupils and you'd be shocked how a lot of them are no longer yet 18. Their mothers and fathers do sign for them with the aid of fact they are like countless different college student ... basically youthful than the traditional. I made it to college at sixteen yet I lived at domicile and commuted the 1st year. I used to humorous tale that beginning early meant you ought to retire early however the Social protection administration does not decide to pay attention that! Have a great first year at school and you sound thoroughly waiting for the journey.
