I like Bear Share. on BearShare.com, if you download from there, it will give you a program that adds a lot of popups, but if you go to BEARSHARE.COM/LITE, the program you get is without the popups.

(A little know fact that is really handy!)

M?
Morpheus. I think I tried that once years ago. I don't know why, but I left it and found Bearshare. My kids like Kazaa too.

Any download has a potential to be a virus.

WinMX is a small program, 752kb that you can use for free. Be sure you have your security program is updated and scan everything you choose to download. There are plenty of people who think it's fun to put out corrupt files.
I run Kaspersky and I've never had a crash due to downloads.

I have given up using such programs...I have come to realize that no matter which one I download or how careful I am there are always going to be viruses. I can't tell you how many times I have had to completely reinstall windows because of viruses

It's not free but doesn't hurt your computer. ITunes is the best. Easy cheap and great music. Get a couple free each week also. You know what they say -there's nothing for free and you have two screwed up laptops to prove it!

Limewire standard edition.....once you get that, use it to download Limewire Pro Edition. The pro ed doesn't have ads or spyware.
