Well, Italy would curse and point fingers at each other.
England would say they should've worked on their penalty kicks.
Brazil would go and samba to calm down.
Holland wouldn't be surprised because, as usual, they didn't win.
Argentina would shriek and collectively run off to the nearest salon to get their hair primped.
Mexico would say the U.S. is a small team that doesn't play soccer the way they should.

Most Americans have no idea what kind of upset this would be. The 1980 USA ice hockey team beating the Russians in "The Miracle on Ice" would not even be close. George Mason getting to the Final Four isn't close.
Another answer compared this to the Golden State Warriors winning the NBA Championship. That's not even close, as it would be more like the East Central High School Warriors winning the NBA Championship.
The world would simply be in shocked disbelief. Most South American and European teams are so much better than the US. Even if the US could pull off one upset, they would have to have 3 more. This will not happen this Cup, and likely not for a few Cups to come.

The US will win it! But this time no.
US Soccer has a goal to win the World Cup by 2010, a good target but 2010 might still be beyond them.
2014 or slightly later is very realistic, given the number of kids kicking balls in fields, schools and stadia in America.
By 2014, Freddy Adu's generation will reach its' peak, that's where the chance is. But more importantly, the US must take small steps, the World Under 17 Cup, Olympics and Youth Cup(Under 21) are the best places to start.
Finally, take heart because American sportsmen have this pride in representing their country that is matched by few. They go down trying even in defeat.

That WOULD be a miracle. The US lost the first game and tied the second one.
Soccer is a relatively new game in the US, as opposed to teams who have been playing for many decades (in some cases over 100 years). In many countries, soccer IS the favorite pass time. Not for the US, I'm afraid.

Nothing would happen, because we'd realize that we're all dead, and have been transported to some kind of "bizarro heaven" where the utterly impossible has become a nightmare of reality. America isn't as bad as people think when it comes to football (soccer).....but, uh, winning the greatest prize in all sports.....the Sun will die out and go nova before the U.S. ever wins the World Cup....unless they release some sort of "super virus" on the football nations of the world, and kill off their players first.

What if you woke up tomorrow and Batman was in your bed?
What if the Golden State Warrior won the NBA championship?
What if you would receive four months of vacation each year?
What if a genie offered to grant your three wishes on your birthday?
What if Donald Trump sent you a check for $1 million each month?
What if Rosanne won the Miss Universe Pageant?
There are at least 30 teams which are superior to the U.S. team.
Enjoy the ride. Enjoy Ghana's moment of glory in defeating the U.S.

The reaction would be that the USA paid someone a lot of money for the results to be that way. It was George Bush's fault!!
No one believes in THAT kind of miracles.

Utter shock and dismay – nothing against this year's phenomenal US national team but at this stage of the game it would have to be the biggest sports upset ever – but would be cool to see;)
