please, if it is a matter of which is cheaper get a fish! Cats need vaccines, FIV tests, spay/neuter procedures (unless you want to contribute to the "epidemic" of stray cats that spread disease) and they require lots of litter(has to be scooped daily and changed about every week-week and a half) food, scratching posts unless you want them to destroy your things and plenty of toys because they will become bored and take it out on your curtains, carpet, bed, couch, etc........Get a fish

Even with all the humorous responses, the proper answer is: ALL PETS ARE EXPENSIVE IN TIME AND MONEY. If you're looking for cheap, you probably won't be responsible with ANY pet if it needs attention, something special or food or medicine. And do you have the time this pet needs and deserves to get from it's owner? Until you have EXTRA money to THROW AWAY, than you shouldn't think pet. The Chia Pet and Pet Rock is a good way to go. Or, volunteer your time at an animal shelter. That way you can do good, and then go home and not worry about paying for their care.

that really depends on what you would like to have also, fish need a tank, depending on how many you get they have some really nice fish and aquariums at Wal-mart, and there's pet stores everywhere to supply you with a very nice variety to choose from, next question have you ever had a cat?and do you have any allergies? Like hay fever then if you do stay away from cats,

A fish is indeed very cheap to maintain. As long as you can buy water for the fish, and fish food, then you can own a fish. Probably will set you back 5 dollars every 2 months.

fish are really cheap but they arent fun and its not like you can pet them or anything.

rabbits are cheap but they smell

cats are relitively cheap but you have to take them to the vet and get them shots so they will be much more expensive then say, a fish.

dogs are the best in my opinion but they are by far the most expensive to feed and take care of. You can get these for free from the newspaper, as you can with cats also, but the upkeep is a lot. you still have to take them to the vet every year or so and get their shots but they are good company and very sweet.

Annual costs for a cat can range from $300-$700. This does not include the cost of spaying/neutering and adoption/purchase prices.

A Chia-pet. A little water, a little sunlight, a windowsill, trim it every few weeks.............good to go. No potty training, goes where you go, sit's when you tell it to. Instant pet. And, you have the added attraction of just throwing it away if you get tired of it, without any animal activist groups bothering you!

Now THAT was a cheap pet to keep.

A fish because all you have to do is feed it and clean it's water. Or you could get a hamster. I think you can buy them really cheap I don't know for sure though.
