I am home alone and the contents of the bowl will not go away - I tried using the plunger but I don't actually know what I'm doing, and I can't leave it there 'til someone gets home - please help soon, it's super gross!

I came back to try the rubber valve thing and there was no water. When I did pull up on the rubber valve, it filled up with water, but it is all still there.

Is the toilet plugged, or is it just not flushing completely?
If it's plugged, put the plunger over the hole in the bottom, and PUSH DOWN
If it's not plugged, and the toilet isn't flushing completely, then open the tank in back of the toilet. It should be full of water - don't worry, it's clean water. Reach down into the watter, to the bottom of the tank, and there should be a rubber valve there. Open this valve with your hand and the water should flow through and flush the toilet. This valve should be replaced, but this will do for now.

You might have to run to the store for a better plunger, most people buy the ones used for the sink not the toilet. Grasp the handle of the plunger and put the rubber part over the hole in the bowl and push as hard as you can, go back and forth as you need to. Use bleach to disinfect the bowl when the stuff goes down, so it doesn't turn into a cesspool. If everything you try still doesn't work call a plumber. Good luck and happy plunging.

try filling and flushing. try more water from the sink. if the bowl emptied out completly, then there might not be enough to push the poop down. toilets are a vacuum.

You are going to have to be really vigorous with the plunger. Don't give up until you've got it done.

if you are no good at plunging, like me, you have to go for the hot water solution - I throw in some bleach as well, eventually it'll break down and flush. Don't worry, it'll go, I promise!

is it plugged? if so use an auger. if not take the lid of the tank and see if the linkage is connected. if not with your hand and lift the flapper valve. it should go down if is is not plugged
