I'm not trying to upset anyone with this answer but celebrities are artistic type of people. Artistic types in general are very self centered individuals and as such are not real good at giving like they are when receiving. This goes for their emotional side also.
They are very used to having their ego's stroked and not used to having to stroke someone elses. Look at the number of them that marry once they have done a movie together. They can't always seperate the acting from reality.
I just think it goes with the personality myself.

In some cases I think that too much public exposure is bad. When everyone is in your business twenty-four seven that can definitely break a marriage especially if it is not a strong one from the start. Then many celebrities feel the need to be with other high profile celebrities and sometimes that may not be the best thing for some of them.

Many times celebrities are separated for long periods of time due to their work. While working, they may meet another person, and get into a relationship.
I would like to say that some celebrity marriages do work--like Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, and Meryl Streep (has been married with children for many years). Also Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward have been together forever.

Sort of the same reason office romances fail. When you have a relationship that everybody knows about and is speculating on and talking about, it puts alot of pressure on the couple.
Also, I'm not sure that the failure rate is all that different than regular people, it just seems that way because when regular people break up it isn't splashed all over the supermarket checkout counter in 48 point font.

I think they fail because they have played so many parts that they really don't know who they are- How can you share your life when your whole life is playing a part or several parts- I think they all are in "love" but when it's time to be real they fall short- They say a little of themselves are in the parts they play- marriage just happens to be one more part-
Marriages that work in Hollywood both people seem to really try at it-

Because they are selfish and self centered and do not believe in commitment usually. Hollywood marriages usually do not last or work out but some do and that is rare. Look at Mel Gibson he is a wonderful husband and has a great and lasting marriage. Kirk Cameron is another one.

Marriage/relationships are hard enough without having everyone in the world watching your every move. I can't imagine having magazines lying about me and critiquing my every move - that has to be very strenuous on a relationship. Not to mention the schedule differentiations and always having assistants/publicists/etc around all the time.

I think many celebrities get caught up in their image, and start to believe that is the substance of who they are, leading them to become somewhat self-centered. A relationship requires a great deal of commitment, humility, and selflessness, and I don't think the celebrity culture fosters these things. Generally, of course there are exceptions.

I think they fail at marriage and relationships because they are only truly in love with what they do and to them trying to love someone and love what they do is just to hard for them to do.

Because there are important things that two people need to work on, to make a committed relationship keep growing stronger. Their lifestyles do not often afford them the time or contact with each other to really work on those daily needs and issues.
