Who feels that the GED is just as good as a highschool diploma and why? Who doesn't and why? Who believes that a person can get a GED and go to college, a 4 year university, and succeed, have a good career and all of that?

I believe it, I did it. Once you are done with your studies it does not matter how you made, the important thing is that you made it.

Interesting question.

I was tired of high school and took the GED at age 16 so I could move ahead with my life. (Aced it out, too.) A couple of years later I was offered an apprenticeship to an electrician, who told me to go join the union (IBEW). The union turned me down on the basis of the GED. They said only "real" high school diplomas were accepted. Since I couldn't join the union, the apprenticeship offer was withdrawn, and I wound up on another career path. If I'd stayed in high school, I would be an electrician today. Instead I'm a self-employed computer consultant making about three times what I would have as an electrician.*

Your success in life depends mostly on your determination. There are many successful people with GED's. Bill Cosby, Ben Campbell (former Senator from Colorado), Michael J. Fox, Mary Lou Retton(Olympic gold medalist), Michael Chang (tennis player), Dave Thomas (founder of wendy's), Ruth Ann Minner (Governor of Delaware), Chris Rock, and many others..

I took my GED and scored so high that I got into college and did well and now work for a law firm. It is always based on individual performance and if you work hard at anything, you can build on it and go to the next level.

I did it back in the 70's and I came out just fine. I wanted to graduate before my class and I had an opportunity to start college right after I turned 18. So I took the G.E.D. the day after my 18 birthday and started school as soon as I got my results back.

It is almost as good as a High School diploma.
Some employers see it that way.
