For teens, your best bet is good old fashion leg work. Go to the various fast food and retail establishments nearby and apply. You can also search the help wanted section of the newspaper, but leg work will probably be the most rewarding. Remember your first impression counts, so dress for an interview even when picking up apps. You could get an interview on the spot if your timing is right.

Other preparation you should do:
- Prepare a resume. It does not need to be very elaborate, but with a simple word processor, there is no reason you can't create one pretty easily. Take a couple of copies when you gather and return applications and if you get asked to an interview. If you have never held a job before, you can list volunteer work, pertinent after school activities and self employment such as lawn mowing or baby sitting. Under education, list the school you are attending and any awards or achievements you have obtained.
- Make sure you have written down all the answers you will need for a application. Some places will want you to complete the application on the spot. You should have addresses, employment dates, emergency contact information etc.
- Ask your parents, a teacher or other adult you trust to look over your resume and to help you practice for interviews.

Remember, job hunting is a job. Make notes of where you have applied. Follow-up. It can be frustrating and can take some time, particularly if you don't have any work experience.

Get a haircut, brush your teeth, wear some clean clothes, shine your shoes, determine where you want to work, and go in and ask them if they are hiring.

I would think Detroit has a public employment agency that is either city, country, or state run. Look in the phone book under government agencies.

Definitely go for fast-food work when you're young. Some stats say that former McDonalds employees are 9 out of 10 times more likely to get hired. But then again, that same stat has those former employees working there for two years.

I would suggest doing yard work, house cleaning, offering dog walking services, or trying some other place that's outside like a full service car wash. all of these types of places give you the opportunity to dress casually, which is a plus.

Well, there is really no good answer for this question. Just look in the newspaper ads. You can also go to your favorite store to shop in and see if they are hiring.
