Do the right thing and call customer service if you know the provider. Or wait till it wrings and get info from that person about the owner of that phone. You would want someone to do that for you, and remember KARMA.

The person who lost it has already reported it lost/stolen so that if someone finds it, they can't use their minutes, etc. But you could still turn it on, look through their phone book, etc.
The best thing to do is find a phone book entry that says "home" or something like that and let them know you found the phone. Think of how you would feel if you lost a phone with all your numbers and info....a lot of people offer a reward if you return their lost phone. If you live far from the person who lost it, many people offer to pay for shipping once they received it, plus a reward. It's the right thing to do, return the phone. You'll make their day so much better.

The owner has most likely turned it off and gotten a new one by now. Donate it to a charity that accepts 2nd hand cell phones. It's of no use to you and you'll be doing the right thing by helping others.

Sounds to me like the person who lost it canceled the service to the phone. The phone itself is of no use to you. Find a local charity that recycles phones and donate it.

return it, phones are expensive these days. To the company tell them that u found a phone and your trying to return it to the owner and that if you could leave at one of their stores and them give it to the person or what.

See if there is a number listed under "home" or "work" and call that number. Otherwise, just start calling numbers and ask if they know who lost a phone - then have them call that number. If it rings - you know it is them and they know who's phone it is.

I would take it and throw it as hard as I could against a brick wall. I know everyone has wanted to do that at one point or another. Wouldn't that feel great? Or you could just try to find the rightfull owner...... but how fun would that be?
