He is a hell of a ball player! No one is worth that much money though. He could make millions less and still be a happy and talented ball player. The money that he is being paid and has been paid sets him up for public scrutiny. If he is not perfect the critics will be after him. No one can be perfect as a field player in baseball. I am not a Yankees fan! But much respect for them and their long standing traditions. Go Astros!

OK, you can dismiss this answer right away because I am a Red Sox fan, or you can listen to reason (let me qualify myself by saying that Jeter is the best all around shortstop in the game now and maybe all time).
ARod is one of the most talented players in baseball, but he does not come up big in the big games. I can back this up only by what I have seen. Obviously Red Sox games are big, but it seems that he comes up with a costly error in every series against the Sox. I have seen him hit many home runs against the Red Sox too, but it is almost always when the score is 10-2 (either way) when a home run really doesn't affect the outcome of the game.
I know there was talk a few years ago that he was going to come to Boston (instead he came to NYC). I remember being excited about that possibility. Now I am thankful that it worked out the way it did. Both Seattle and Texas were immediately better teams when they unloaded ARod.....as a Red Sox fan, I hope the Yankees keep him forever (but if they want to trade Jeter...Theo is listening).

I used to be a Yankees fan before George Steinbrenner came along. There are still true Yankees, like Bernie Williams and Derek Jeter, but Alex Rodriguez is just a mercenary. He turned his back on Seattle even though he professed he loved the city and the Mariners, and never once concerned himself that he wrecked the Rangers' team-building plans by allowing them to overreach themselves with his excessive salary. He is good, but he is not that good. Few are. I do draw the line at cheering when he is hit with a pitch (I've heard it), but heartily approve of the play money that wafts down from the upper deck of Safeco Field every time he comes to bat. I hope the New York Steinbrenners keep him, because a team that loses him only gets better (Seattle won 116 games the season after he took the money and ran).

while (and if?) the checklist does ever pop out, we will comprehend for particular who's taken steroids. till then, do no longer assume issues and attempt to take the attention off the shown fact that A-Rod DID cheat by making use of claiming Papi did (once you have actually no evidence by any potential.) you think of he's on steroids with the aid of fact he's hitting domicile runs? he's been our massive hitter for particularly it slow now. He replace into basically in a droop - it happens in baseball. have faith or no longer, some people are not huge sluggers 24/7 with the aid of fact do no longer cheat and play truly and by making use of the regulations.

I think he is not the most overrated player in the game, and neither is Jeter for that matter. Let me ask those who say he is overrated because of the $$, would you turn down $250 million to do your job for ten years? I think not. Remember, the Rangers are just as much at fault for offering the contract to ARod.
I think he puts himself in too much pressure to get the big hit. When he gets it, as he did the last two games against Washington (though they ended up in losses) everything is fine. But if he fails just once to get the big hit, he is booed and labeled as a "choker."

I agree. He is just trying too hard to carry the team with Matsui, and Sheffield on the DL. The guy still won the MVP last year, and is not having a terrible year. He sometimes puts too much pressure on himself to hit the winniing hit, and tries to hit the always impossible 5-run homerun. A little work with Donnie baseball and he should be fine.

Why do I hate a-rod, because he isn't a clutch player. Sure he hits a lot of homeruns and knocks in a lot of RBIs but they are always in games that are blow outs. Last year in the playoffs he went 2 for 15. That is a batting average of .133 that is awful.
