It could be a hardware or software conflict. Try uninstalling any other sound drivers that might be installed on the system by using the Control Panel Applet -> Add/Remove Programs

If you still have a problem uninstall the drivers again (if they installed all the way) and then Right Click on "My Computer", select properties from the menu and then go into "Device Manager".

Depending on your version of Windows, you will have a category for "sound/video/game controllers". It shouldn't be hard to find.

You should see the name of your sound card with a little yellow exclamation mark next to it. Click the device and hit the DEL key to remove it.

Reboot and when your computer starts it should detect your sound card again. Try to install the drivers now.

If that still doesn't work you try:
Run chkdisk/scandisk (depending on Windows version) on your system drive to ensure the problem isn't being caused by filesystem corruption.

re-install windows, or restore your system with your manufacturer restore disk. Back up your important files to another location before you do this.

first thing: -reinstall the drivers
it probably won't work because you seem to have a hardware conflict so, you have to go to device manager(from safe mode)->sound video and game...->and here you will find several entries...look for something like ...sound system or audio controller, right click on it , properties->resources,uncheck use automatic settings and select a diferent configuration.

also you could try moving the sound card in another slot, if it's not incorporated and check in the bios if there are integrated peripherals you don't use, disable them, to reduce the number of used IRQs.
hope this helps
