I am in the uk and I have an ntsc ps2 with a step down transformer to lower the voltage to 110 and it works perfectly so I dont see why a pal ps2 wont work in america if you have a transformer to raise the voltage to 240 and the checker system on your pal ps2 will only allow pal games to be played no matter where in the world you are.

If you want your pal ps2 to play ntsc games your best bet is a piece of software called swap magic slide tool which does the same job as a mod chip but instead of completely disabling the checker system it skips past it. Mod chips lead to power failure and disk read errors therefore shortning the ps2's life. Swap magic does not damage the machines insides so you will not shorten its life by using it although you do have to do a piece of very minor modification which full instructions are provided with the software and it does not involve opening the machine up so it will not void any warranty you may have with Sony. Swap magic simply skips past the checker system and fools the machine into thinking its a genuine pal game. You can also use the same software to allow backup games to work.

Hope this helps

It's not possible without a mod chip. But I don't recommend the chip because it voids the warranty and makes some games not work at all due to hidden anti-piracy software in the game discs.
If you must play US games, its not terribly expensive to just get a US PlayStation 2 for them. The same goes for all other regions as well.

i'm particular of this, and sorry however the different 2 solutions are incorrect. The 60gb is the only pal one to play ps2 video games. The 40gb doesnt, even even though it does play ps1 video games. they are additionally the only ps3's on sale in europe. of course all of them play dvd's and the recent hd format blu-ray.

I'm afraid no, sorry

its not only for the fact they have a different format of different electrical configurations, its mainly because they use regional restrictions above all else.

you can play European games on your euro-PS2
but you may need an adapter for the power-plug

however, you can't use your euro-games on an american ps2
or vice-versa
