"My old lady is at the store"

I can't stand it! I'm only 22!

Where did this term originate?

I really hate these terms that guys come up with for their g/f/wives. It is totally disrespectful.

I am 41 and still hate the term maam! I tell people: Do I look like a maam to you? Do I look old enough to be one? That usually gets to them. I have had some people call me miss lately, and boy is that a compliment!! I know that people say maam out of respect, but it just bugs the heck out of me to be called that, unless you can tell from their accent that they are from the deep south. Then you know that it's just how they talk and nothing you say will change that. But, if they don't have the accent, then I say something.

I know that if my fiance EVER called me his 'old lady', he would live to regret it. lol

True metal is exactly what the term says it is. Those bands you mentioned aren't really metal. Metal is more than distorted guitars through loud amps. There is a certain underlying element that you can't describe in words, either you get it, or you don't. Those bands could be called Nu-"Metal" or Mall "Metal" or Jump-core or Fake-core, McMetal, whatever... It's just not real metal. It's like calling Taco Bell a Mexican restaurant.

I dunno. Maybe it sounds dumb to say my new lady. Saying my young lady would mean a little girl. And just lady is the name of a Disney character. But I do not know what it feels like to be called that, and more than likely the whole "ol' lady" thing was started back in the day in the south.

I dunno...lemme ask my old lady!...grin. I think that it originated in the 50's or early 60's. Sort of passe as an expression these days.

I'm 22 as well. I HATE IT!! I'm glad no one has ever called me that. I will definitely veto that term if it ever comes up.
