are there others that come close to him? why does he have such a cult following after his death?

He certainly is one of the worst, but at least his life inspired the magnificent Tim Burton film "Ed Wood."

I recommend viewing Plan 9 from Outer Space, if you can find it. It is the turkey of all turkies, and I believe it contains Bela Lugosi's final performance. There are quite a few others, too, but they can be a little hard to find. Loved Johnny Depp in Ed Wood, though. That's the easiest to find and mentions the titles of Ed Wood's films.

He was so bad he was good. There are people who just love to celebrate that stuff. I think they're trying to be ironic. Today's worst director is... Uwe Boll.

his films are terrible, but i consider a hack director like brett ratner or chris columbus to be worse, because they have every tool at their disposal, yet the still churn out soulless "product" year after year.
