It shut down my reporductive system and I don't ovulate or get my period. I have seen my OB-GYN and she can't explain. Anyone else have problems with this shot?

This rarely happens but it does. If you are only 22 and you took your last depo 5 years ago...then you were to young to be on the shot anyway. I hate this for you. Your reproductive system may wake back up...but it will take a long time. But new technology comes out everyday. Try to find a fertility specialist and see if there is a reverse shot.

Over time you should get your period back, but there are no guarantees. The Depo shot is a very serious and dangerous form of birth control. Originally it was used to give rapists and child molesters because it was thought to lower their sex drive. It didn't start out as a birth control method.
When I took the depo shot I didn't have a period for a year, and then I got it for 6 months. Worst months of my life.

Ohmigod!!!! No that has never happened to me, but I am on the shot, and I officially just made a decision to stop taking it... I'm sorry that happened to you, but I also thank you for telling others about that.. Sad thing is that you would think the docs would tell us things like that can happen b4 giving us the shot... I will pray for a miracle for you..

I have no idea but you have shocked me! I've just had my second depo injection and only now i have started hearing of problems it causes. I am very concerned for myself also. So if anyone does have any info i'd also be very greatful. I'm sorry to hear about your ovaries not working!!!

If I take birth control (any hormonal type) I have constant spotting, so I'd consider myself lucky. Maybe if they start you on regular birth control pills it will get your cycle going again. Sometimes hormones need to be regulated. They should take blood tests at different times of the month to see what your body is doing.
