you know what, if you can find a small kissing fish, and are prepared to upgrade your tank in a year or so, go ahead and get your 5.5 gallon tank. Just keep in mind that they won't be able to live in there their entore life. I know many people that have kissing gourami's in a 40 gallon tank...for the last 6 years.

Your tank is much too small for one Gourami, let alone two Gouramis. For these fish, I suggest getting an obviously larger aquarium, about twenty or more gallons at least. It may cost money, but it'll be worth the price. Also, you shouldn't get just one Gourami, two or more would be better. Fish, like us, can get lonely sometimes and they'll need a companion.

Actually Kissing Gourami grow to a maximum of 12 inches long. They typically only get to 6 inches in captivity. These fish are very territorial and need considerable space to grow, graze, and hide. An abundance of plants is nice too as they like to nibble on live plants. Typically I don't like to see this size fish in a tank smaller than 50 gallons. They also do best when paired.

You will be fine with 5.5 quarts. I have Kissing Gouramis for a few years now. These guys dont grow big. If im not mistaking, they only grow up tp 3 - 4.5 inches. You will be good.

Pink kissing Gourami's should always be purchased in pairs...they get lonely...and sometimes sick and die.....thats big enough for two fish....but why stop there? community tanks are neat and those fish will get along with alot of other fish....15-20 gallon tanks are always nice to start off...and remember, bigger the tank, easier to take care of and least amount of problems.

How big are the Gouramis? A general rule of thumb I've always used is that you need one gallon of water for every inch of fish (where the number of inches are the length of the fish from nose to the end of the tail).

Minimum tank size for 1 is 30 gallons so I would say that 5.5 quart is way too small. Check this out http://freshaquarium.about.com/cs/anabantids2/p/kissinggourami.htm

No they will quickly outgrow that. I would upgrade to a ten gallon tank for sure. fish need lots of space, esp. if there's 2. Plus I would opt. for the large gravel since they feed off of algae, it prenets them from "diggin up" the gravel. I hope this helps.

No I would go to a ten gallon and just to make sure I would ask the pet store what is the square footage for each fish. You want to make sure they have living space to swim around in.
