It has been in my experience that you can keep powder and eyeshadow until they run out as long as you keep your applicators clean. I clean mine at least once every two weeks to prevent oils and bacteria from forming.

the standard answer is 4-6 months since it goes on your eyes which are swimming with bacteria. If it smells okay and looks okay and is within the 4-6 months it's probably safe, however if it's caked or too loose or smells funny or has an otherwise weird texture or property, I would toss it. eye infections are NO fun!

You should replace all your makeups including Lipsticks every six months, you can get cold sores and eye infections if you don't. it doesn't matter if it still smells good or you only used it a couple of times if you care more about your health than your wallet you'll toss it.
