The reason our leaders are so selfish and care for no one but themselves in this era: they're all old hippies.
Free love and marijuana was all about self-gratification.
"Don't trust anyone over 30," has now become: "Trust no one under 30." See how they do that to keep everything in their domain?
G.W. and several others joined the National Guard to avoid being drafted to Vietnam because back then, the National Guard was only used to guard the nation. G.W. changed that, knowing that others would probably try his stunt. Old hippies are also hypocritical.
G.W. also sampled drugs, participated in 'free love' and other hippie era things. Which would make him normal for his 'age group'.
If we can survive the 'Hippies Rule' era of our nations government, the X generation (1980's) will move in and replace the 'old-young guard'.
Hold your breath and pray we don't get nuked or overrun before then.
What do you think? Am I right about this?

fuc*-up=hippie=burn-out=druggie=bum, what's the difference? You could be a yale boy and still be a hippie back then in the 70's. Jessica, you're rude and brainwashed.

Blue Owl Boy: those two aren't the only ones to use the quote. I was around for the seventies and following decade. I paid attention from about age 7 and up and even read the paper. Recently I have dug up stuff on the Shrub that would lead one to believe he was a 'plastic' hippie. Totally by serendipity. So I know I'm right.

What?! Is The Shrub everyone's new Jesus or something?! This maniacle loyalty verges on religious fervor! Good grief. The man should start his own church.

I agree with your thinking of how the "old-young guard" acts, but if I may, I believe you need to take this evolution of behavior one step further.
A defining moment for many in w's age group was when they found God after many personnel and professional failures. The brainwashing that occurs during this so called religious awakening clears them of all guilt, and reinforces the belief that they were right all along, it was only their lack of faith that caused any faltering.
Its quite easy to blame all the worlds problems on the lack of more people being saved, than to really do the hard work of finding answers to all the world questions. The feeling of being one of the elite in the eyes of God, thus not capable of making any wrong decisions, or even being held up to any criticisms, is worn like a badge, and in w's world, a shinning sword of honor.

Lots of people have thought of aspects of it, but with mor thought and research on its aspects.
The actual number of hippies was a very small percentage of those who are regarded as hippies today. Many were what was called "plastic hippies" meaning they were just in it for what they perceived as other benefits, such as the free love you mentioned. However, the free love movement was strongest in the 19th century.
Marijuana had been a regular fixture in the Americas for centuries, as a means of communicating with mystical entities. Among many Native Americans, it is still considered a "power plant" only for spiritual purposes, so it is not "all about self-gratification."
The phrase " 'Don't trust anyone over 30,' has now become: 'Trust no one under 30' " occurs in a book by historians William Strauss and Neil Howe.
Not everyone who avoided the draft was a hippie; nor were most people who joined the National Guard. But, yes, many old hippies are hypocritical. Many people are, no matter if they are old hippies or not.
Generation X was born from 1961-19981 according to generational theorists. The cohort group born from 1981- 2003 is variously called Generation Y and Boomerang Generation.
The type of generation that Generation Y falls into is typified by rebuilding social institutions and advocating technological progress. They seek social harmony through conformity and promote public optimism and their later adult lives are usually lived in economic prosperity.
So, you're right about the conclusion, but not the reasoning to arrive at it.

Nice thought, but Bush was a yale frat boy, he wasn't a hippie. He was a playboy doing cocaine and riving drunk on daddies dollar. He was a fuckup.
His pals who really run things, his advisors, were mostly neo-cons from University of Chicago and had pocket protectors. They were scheming all this stuff from way back and now in thier glory, during thier Revolution, we all suffer and things are going fine as far as thier plans are concerned.
The idea of "trust no one under 30" was around more in the 1960's 70's I think. We had less sutdents wanting to literally sell out to the business corporate world, now we have Young Republicans and all sorts of greedy under-30 people. Back then it really was a cultural divide (so I hear, too young to be there) and it was like the old and the young battling it out, what is called a generation gap. Today, young people still live under a very 1980's style mentality, Reaganites for the most part, just willingly burning up the world and happiness for thier own short term rewards.
Smile, the next revolution is begining, read some press from Latin America, it is hot hot hot there, I am so happy!

Hippies. They're everywhere. They wanna save the earth, but all they do is smoke pot and smell bad.
I hate hippies! I mean, the way they always talk about "protectin' the earth" and then drive around in cars that get poor gas mileage and wear those stupid bracelets - I hate 'em! I wanna kick 'em in the nuts!
I've been keeping this place free of hippies since I was five and a half.
M'am, I'm here to check your house for parasites ... apparently, you have hippies.

Well, the solution to changing that problem is for young people like you to vote out the idiots in office now. Look at Barak Obama. He is the scariest thing that those selfish and hedonistic leaders have to worry about. Get somebody young and promising to knock these geezers off at the knees. Show them a thing or two about behaving well.

Nah, who was greeder than Napoleon or Alexander? Those Pharoahs were really selfish. I might have a pyramid build for me one day. The things I would do if I were king of the forest? Woohoo!

And how old did you say you were? I didn't think you mentioned your age. Of course, your mental attitude shows your age so your opinion does not matter to me...And yes I am over 30...And proud of it.
