I work at the local YMCA, and we have a pool.
Our rule is an infant has to be 6months old to be in our pool. For two reasons. First, there are many chemicals used to keep a pool clean, which could be harmful to very young babies. And secondly because a baby can't maintain it's core body temperature very well until it is 6mos old. And in a swimming pool, a small baby's core body temp can drop and put them in danger.
Hope that helps.

It is definitely OK to take the baby into the pool with you. Really any age is fine, there are even some classes for mommies and newborns. CLose supervision, obviously, is the only requirement.

Good luck, and enjoy!

Don't take your baby into a pool until he/she is at least 6 months old. They aren't able to properly regulate their body temperature before 6 months and putting them in a pool, even if it doesn't feel very cold to you can put them at risk for developing mild hypothermia even in the middle summer. When you do take him/her in the pool make sure to use a swim diaper since feces in a pool can spread infection.

Do you mean with a parent? I started bring my son into a pool at about a year old but you can bring them in sooner. Your holding onto him and he's under a careful eye, it shouldn't be a problem.
Germs would be a worry at any age.

I would have to agree with the 6 month age. They are better prepared to maintain their temp. and their immune system is better developed just hold on to the kid when in the pool.

I think they should be six months for the pool. That's what the YMCA age is to go to there pools.

as long as the child is with a responsible adult it doesn't matter, but wait till after the navel heals up completely, i'd say around a couple months old to be safe
