The Hammond organ was invented in 1934 and was the first commercially-successful music synthesizer, with two 61-note manual keyboards and a 25-note pedal keyboard. The Model B3, manufactured between 1955 and 1975 was the most successful Hammond organ, and many are still in use today. To generate the sounds, toothed iron wheels rotated in front of magnets wound with copper wire. The variation in distance caused by the passing hills and valleys on the wheel induced an electric sine wave current in the copper coil, which was then amplified and sent to the loudspeaker. Each key had nine contacts connected to a set of drawbars which in turn controlled the level of nine harmonics, thus allowing the organist to set the particular pattern of harmonics that he wanted. The organ also had an octave of reverse-colored keys at the left end of each keyboard which acted as pre-sets. The harmonic content of each pre-set could be changed by lifting the top cover of the organ console and changing the wiring connections. Hammond stopped making the tone-wheel organs in 1975, and came out with several all-transistor models. Modern Hammond organs are currently being manufactured by Hammond-Suzuki, and faithfully copy the sound of the old electro-mechanical units. If you go to YouTube and search "Hammond organ", you will find a number of videos that demonstrate the "Hammond sound". Or you can search for Ethel Smith, Cherry Wainer, Lenny Dee, and Klaus Wunderlich.

There's crude oil under the Statue of Liberty. Since it will look odd having oil drill platforms around it's base (the tourist would hate the photos) the drilling is done few miles away in new jersey using a technology developed by a company in texas to drill straight down, then horizontal towards lady liberty, then straight down again. This way you can pump oil from anywhere and not necessarily right above the location of the oil.

Is that interesting enough? I Got more...

The entire eco-system is dependent on the fact that ice freezes at a lower density then when it is in liquid form. This means that ice floats in water. THis means lakes don't freeze at the bottom and kill all aquatic life. Water also regulates the temperature of the entire planet making life possible.
