i have a portfolio, im really good, ive done a gcse in art, so what do i need an a-level? The detailing of the course said mature students over 21 without relevant quals welcome..

Sorry to hear your news.

The best thing you can do is ask the tutor for specific feedback as to why they didn't accept you on to the course. You should also check whether they are rules that are applied at every college or just at that one and then talk to other local colleges and see if they'll take you instead.

If you do need other qualifications - then at least you'll know which ones.

Hasn't everyone got GCSE in art??? You'll need grade A-C to start with. The problem is, art is a very popular subject to study, so they can afford to set high entry levels for courses. Talent is one thing, but you need to prove you can actually commit to a course for a certain length of time and cope with academic work, as well as artistic.

sounds like the tutor wants more money from you. If you are over 21, submit your portfolio. Its up to the college, not the tutor.

I think you should ask who you can appeal to against this decision within the college. If as you say you 'qualify' as a mature student then they have to justify their refusal.
