95 KSF 250a 9 ATV wont start from kick but will if towed. I think it is completely out some where. The cams seem to be right 43 pins at TDC. I have spark and gas? There is alot of slack in the cam chain how much is allowed? I did try and tighten it. I also found that it had the wrong plug in it. Any suggestion will be appreciated.

What year is it?
Do you want to know how to set the camshaft timing or ignition timing?
Always give year, make, engine size and model # when asking questions.

Just a suggestion - Instead of giving additional info, ask another question. People won't usually go looking at old questions. I only came back because I had yours in my watch list.

If you think the cam chain is to loose, the tensioner might not be working properly. Remove the tensioner and stick your finger in the hole pushing on the guide. Turn the engine foward and back. Will that remove the slack? If yes, then you might need a new tensioner. It's unlikely that the chain is stretched.

When you did the top end, did you adjust the valve clearance? At TDC compression stroke you should be able to move the rocker arms. Otherwise they'er to tight. The valves might be leaking (not making a good seal). That will cause hard starting. Put the piston at TDC compression stroke and blow air into the spark plug hole with an air gun. Listen at the end of the exaust pipe & air box. If you hear any thing, then it's time for a valve job.

The ignition timing isn't adjustable on this model. Any thing else I can help with, contact me direct. Don't forget to include year, make, model. I get a lot of questions.
