Elderly folk are walking history books, they remember before TV, telephones, computers, etc. How it was like to WORK to make your way. How simple things (like an apple) were a treasured gift. When if your dog got out of the yard ; so what, he'll come back-'cause you had no neighbors. Most of all, they got here didn't they?, We may treat them as old and senile, feeble and weak, but they made it this far. Will we ?

Well, elderly people have lived a long time, and, they have learned a lot. With all the knowledge they have gained, they can be very valuable to society. I am glad that we have elderly people. But, it is ashame that so many elderly people are mistreated, or just left in nursing homes.

Wisdom. They have seen much more than younger people have. They have had time to see the results of their actions and right /wrong choices. With age comes widom and knowledge. Granted there are those that are goofy, but for the most part I respect advice given by those twice my age. If you are speaking of old folks in nursing homes who can't care for themselves....I believe they give others a change to show compassion. I know when I went to the nursing home to visit my grandmother I would spend time talking to others who I passed in the hall. It is hard to do sometimes, but I think it can keep people soft at heart. What would society be without wisdom and compassion?

The elderly are just as valuable to society as any other age group. They have to offer wisdom, expertise, insight, wealth, nurturing and comfort, support, and stability. They give the rest of us an opportunity to practice patience and servitude.

They also provide endless opportunities for the pharmaceutical industry.

the elderly know a lot more because they've been through more. they are the key holders of wisdom, and they also tell some great stories. i met this elderly man named ben as i was volunteering at the hospital once, and he used to tell me about the craziest things.

I think they provide us with their knowledge and history of their pasts. I'd love to hear the stories they have. They also help us to appreciate history of all types along with the futures that lie ahead for everyone. They also encourage further research on medical conditions that can affect anyone ...

Speaking for myself, would somebody please take me out to the desert, mountains or swamp and shoot me?

I'm 55, haven't been laid properly in about 15 years, I've heard all the music there is a bazillion times, I hate television, sports, the newspaper. Technology isn't moving fast enough and no hope for a girlfriend or retired life.

I cannot self terminate.

I think that they give insight into the past. They allow us to remember the mistakes we made and give us advice as to how not to repeat them.
