Okay, this is stupid, but you know that commercial with the duck screaming Afflac? Where they pay your bills, or whatever it is, if you're injured?

It starts with aff. You need afflac because you're affected by an injury.

And think Cause and Effect. Cause ends with the letter 'E'. Effect starts where Cause Left Off. lol

Yes, try this...

causE--Effect

Now you know that cause and effect are related words. Affect is not.

e.g. this action is the causE of that Effect

Just remember the proper use of only one of the two words (effect - affect). Otherwise you always will get confused.

Cheers,
Alpha

Affect is a verb, i.e. related to some 'A'ction.
So the 'A' in affect is for 'action' meaning verb.

Effect is noun.

Hope this helps as this is the way that I remember it. :)

I was taught that if you can use "the" before it, then use "effect"..."the" ends with "e", "effect" begins with "e"...sounds strange, but try it.
