Well, there's Scottish Country Dancing -- this is dancing for the masses. No special skill required. Check out your local Royal Scottish Country Dance Society group. (RSCDS)
Then, there's Highland dancing. Ballet training is not necessary. Just find a Highland instructor (possibly through the RSCDS group near you). This dance form is difficult, and not for everyone.
Good luck!
Oh, to cowsformeatandmilk:
One does not need to memorize all the compositions in the Scottish Country Dance books in order to enjoy the activity.
The universe of steps is relatively small, and can be enjoyed by most people with a bit of training, which does NOT include ballet, typically. You do require a bit of stamina for some of the quick-time dances.
People routinely dance for their own enjoyment, and they will not be kicked out if their feet are turned out 85 degrees instead of 90.
Highland dancing, I claim, is a performance dance form requiring high skill and lots of training.

dan in bostan you are talking ****. Scottish country dancing requires a lot of stamina, and the aptitude to remember all the set dance steps and seeing that there are over 1000 different sets that takes a lot or remembering, traditional Scottish dancing requires the same dedication, the only difference is that country dancing has a french influence that comes from the french alliance where as traditional dancing historically was a men only event, read the history of Scottish dance,
in answer to the question,,any recognized school of Scottish dancing will be able to asses your daughters needs and abilities

I don't participate, but I'm quite fond of watching Scottish dancing. I would consider a number of dance disciplines at first, and let her see which she likes best. There may be some intro type courses which expose a youngster to multiple styles. That might be a possibility.

Tap dancing might be good to start with, but I would say that it doesn't really matter. She should be able to start right into Scottish dancing, at least at a beginner level. Have a good one!

what is your daughter interested in?? don't force her into something she doesn't want to do because she won't enjoy it as much and will see it as a chore instead of something for fun.
