They are called kits. I've raised rabbits for 24 years and personally knew Dr. Terry E. Reed. They probably technically should be called kittens, but most rabbit breeders refer to them as kits. Having grown up around people such as Terry Reed and some of the people he learned off of, I can understand how the term may have gotten shortened from kittens to kits. Dr. Reed had an interesting way of saying things sometimes. I remember when I first started raising Californians. I got some rabbits from the person that won the National Convention and they ended up being not all that good. They were flat on the hindquarters. Doc. Reed's response when he judged them was simply, "Looks like they got hit in the rear end with a snow plow."

The members of the American Rabbit Breeders Association calls the offspring of rabbits kits. Most people use the name "bunny or bunnies". When you talk about the gender of a rabbit, think deer. Males are bucks and females are called does.
I have sold rabbits for over 40 years, and I sell bunnies, because hardly no one would know what a kit is.
