The cd rom will only read original MS disks

IE no other WIN XP compatible cd's will open what so ever not even a self burnt disk with the original system drivers. I am at this time burning a DVD with the dame data on it. The MS cd's are not dvd roms but I thought it was worth a try

Are you asking or telling us this is your problem?

A cd rom will read any cd, however if your computer cannot associate a file with the contents of the cd- then it will read it only as a file

For example: you can put the mac OSX dvd into your drive, it will read it, but it is not compatible with Microsoft, so it will recognize the file but it will not know how to handle it.

Solution:
Use a disc that is compatable with MICROSOFT... cd drives can be programmed to work with any operating system... The Operating system may not be compatable with the media that is being inserted into the drive that is compatible with the operating system
