First off the Hispanics are Spanish mixed with native American in most cases. Alot of people that originate from Spain have a light olive color and not dark like most Hispanic people. Most other Hispanics that come from Mexico and other areas in Central America and below the border are generally darker. Alot of them are dark complected and then work outdoors making them darker. Maybe the Hispanic girl in your class is Chicano which means that she would be Hispanic and white mixed and alot of them do look white.
And although you say your friend is Indian when you made the remark that in your opinion that they may be crossed with blackpeople and ummmm stuff you know (just as you said it) so they look alittle darker....that made you sound racist. You should talk to your Indian friend about the Spanish/Indian background and maybe you could learn something from them.

If you are talking about color of skin, then yes. I was born in Peru and my grandparents were Italian, Irish, English, and Asian. The color of my skin is "white" but I consider myself Latina. Most of my relatives have blue eyes or green eyes with brown or blonde hair.
The term "hispanic" is a government term to classify all the people from South and Central America. Unfortunately, this is where the confusion originates. You can't say that all hispanics are dark or white. It's such a narrow minded thinking. Have an open mind about people. Get used to the gray area intead of everything being black or white. That's when you will know you are all growns up.
Consider this: "Don't judge a book by its cover".

Hispanic is a political designation. Mexicans were considered "Caucasian" in Texas until the late 50s. While Spaniards are Caucasian, so-called Hispanics are Spanish-speaking mixed Indians ( mestizos).

Some Hispanics may have mixed with black or American Indian (especially in South America) but generally speaking, Hispanics ARE white. The category on questionnaires is due to their own preference in staying as a separate group, not anybody else's exclusion of them as not white.

For the most part, yes. Hispanic is only an ethnic designation, not a racial one. For example, people from Spain, Argentina & Uruguay are almost entirely unmixed white. About 30% of people from Chile are unmixed white. The overwhelming majority of Cuban-Americans are unmixed white, however most Cubans back home are now largely mulatto, with about 30% still unmixed white. Most of the rest of the Latin American countries have sizeable unmixed white minority populations. Otherwise, most "Latinos" are mestizo, which is a mix of Spanish (white) & Amerindian. Some countries, such as Costa Rica & Paraguay have white-dominant mestizo populations, while most others, Mexico in particular, have Amerindian-dominant mestizo populations. A few countries, like Guatemala, still have large unmixed Amerindian populations. Then, of course, you have several island nations with a large black admixture. Brazilians, while not Hispanic, are Latinos, but the slight majority of their population is unmixed white. The majority of the rest, mixed with black.
There is a tendency these days, however, to confuse race & ethnicity. In addition, it has become "hip" to identify as nonwhite, so it is mostly the young who buy into this misconception. Keep in mind, also, that skin color has absolutely nothing to do with race. So the short answer is yes, Hispanics are, to a large extent, Caucasian. They are just not "Anglo", the term traditionally used to refer to non-Hispanic whites.

Some hispanics are white, some are black, some are asian, some are mixed, some are native. for political reasons "hispanic" became a race in USA combining people from spanish speaking countries together and saying they are a race. If you go to Chile, peru, ect they will not have a clue what hispanic is, they just say they are white and native, ect.
For instance I guy I worked with from Puerto Rico is of Irish and Dutch ancestry, he says he is white though.

The hispanic name comes from Spain, Latino's or Hispanics or whatever you prefer. Come from all over. Their ansestors depend on where they originate from. For instance, some Mexican's have spanish in them from when Spain came over to Mexico. And, it also depends on what part of Mexico. In Veracruz, and a few other areas in Mexico have an african presence. Throughout Mexico their are native indians. Aztec, Mayan, Toltec etc...And, in the Caribbean, there is more of an african presence. Like I said it all depends on what area the people originated from. In Oaxaca and Chiapas there are still alot of indigionus people

Hispanics are a mixture of native Indian and Spaniards. If your friend looks white, it just means that her family tree has more white folks than Indians.
