I just got back from a trip to vegas from los angeles with a friend who also drove her car and she wants me to pay the full cost of gas for both ways. I suggested we should split the cost of the gas, or even break it down 70/30 or something, but she disagreed saying because she drove her car she shouldn't have to pay for gas.
Do you think I should have to pay for the full cost of gas?
How would you react if you were in my position?

Did you have any type of agreement before you left Los Angeles to go to Vegas? I think that you should both split the total cost of gas, tolls, etc. However, if your friend insists you should pay more and there was no agreement I would probably pay her(I would not be happy about it and let her know) however, I would chalk it up as a learning experience and learn from my mistake: " to be very specific on terms" the next time I went with her or anyone else. Take care

Here's what you do. Give her an envelope of 1/2 of the gas money and leave it at that. If she keeps bugging you for the rest of it she really is not a friend you want to have. If you learn anything in life it's not to keep friends that will be dragging you down. There are millions of people here that agree with you, and disagree with your friend.

Me and my friend Andrea went together on a trip with my daughter and we split the hotel, food and gas. She came from Ky to GA. She paid for her gas till she got to Atlanta where I live then I took over for the trip while we was there then she took over on the way back. It almost completely equaled out.

I would offer her half and only half not fair if you also paid for other things on the trip.

I'd offer to pay half of the Gas costs.

She would have put just as many miles on her car (and used just as much fuel) if you were there or not, so it's a gesture as a friend more than anything.

See you on Judge Judy!
