Well I don't exactly know what you mean because you couldn't get too specific, but I'll give a general answer of my opinion.

I think the obsession with America is due to the fact that we are a young country. Not just young, but like a baby country compared to everyone else. Sure we have history (I hate to have anyone say that any country has NO history . . if it's there it has history) but we don't have the "legend" aspect to us. We're supposed to be such a great country but yet I think we are pushed to prove that because of how young we are. Therefore, everything about America is watched so closely. Others want to know what's next for America and just what America is all about. This country is kind of all over the place, always trying to kind of judge what's right or wrong, so it's not like when you go to another country and things are a little more routine. I guess America is so free that it can be too free a times and we tend to be watched.

Hey, I think America needs to be watched sometime too. But mainly, I think we just need to grow into the world a little more.

I am answering this question with the assumption that you are talking about the World Cup. If that is the case and you are in the US, the self-appreciation is no more than any other country. Look at the media in Brazil, or Spain, or Japan, and you would see the tournament coverage dominated by their own stories on their game days.

As far as arsenalfox2000, the US broadcasts their own news worldwide? Most of the people that live on this planet would have no access (TV or Newspaper) to the way US news would be broadcast. I see the BBC still emphasizes UK news. Is that wrong? Go to the British tabloids and look for news on the US soccer team. Not much there.

The US has not "show(n) everyone else that we are the boss". Perhaps the world would have preferred if the US had not meddled in Europe in the 1940's.

Perhaps the obsession is best illustrated by the fact that people are pouring into the country every day, but we don't seem to have a problem with people trying to get out. No lines going into Mexico.

Well, unfortunately, too many people in the world look to America as an example (bad decision) and want to be like them (another bad decision)....and the fact that America generally broadcasts their own news worldwide, and they want just about everyone to know what they're doing (most of the time), causes many people to sort of view America as a "soap opera" that the world can tune it to. America is like the kid everyone knew in highschool, not necessarily the best student or coolest kid, but someone who craved attention and wanted the spotlight as much as possible.

Because America is obsessed with everyone else. The USA has a hand in every other country in the world. And we show everyone else that we are the boss, eventually that is going to be our downfall.

Huge market almost untapped. Should the American team do very well, the media coverage in the USA would be out of this world, and it would mean exposure for the sport and FIFA. Lets not forget it would bring to the game lots of greenbacks (dollars).

In America everyone sees them as World power even in soccer , and recently they climbed up to 5th position in Fifa ranking which makes them pretty good. But as for me , they have too much home based players and they just don't have the individual experience from more developed europeans leagues.

Because America has always been on the forefront of the international scene, whether in the news, films, and the likes. And of course, almost all countries in the world has some relative living in the US. It is the melting pot of all races, they say.

Because America is a bull in a china shop. The glassware and crystal are the small nations of the world, and the US is the bull.

Soccer is the fastest growing sport in the U.S., but we still suck at the professional level. Everyone in America wants to see the team prove itself.

Actually, most people in most countries are interested and curious about what happens in other lands. It's human nature.
