Being single has helped me get the jobs I have had sort of for the same reasons I think "brand name user" was the ID alluded to.

Can work all sorts of odd hours without having to worry about being with family, taking crap as pay because only have one to worry about.

I have heard that HR people do consider being married as a stabilizing influence in life, but with divorce becoming more and more prevalent, probably not as true today. There has also been studies that show individuals in a traditional family setting usually have longer life spans.

Companies are looking for stability in an employee. Usually married people do not switch jobs unless there is a real need to do so (down sizing or company moving etc). Companies view married people as being more stable than single people.

For "normal" jobs, this isn't really the case. Marital status is one of those items that they're not allowed to ask you during the interview or whatever process.

For more public spotlight type jobs or elected officials, voters might be more inclined to vote for a married person because it shows more responsibility to settle down and have a family and all that. Whether this is actually true is besides the point. It's public perception.

a married man has responsibilities and is tied down to a geographic area more than a single man

single men can take or leave jobs based on whims, they can move out of the area and all that

for an employer this is a big deal, they don't want to waste all their time trying to train someone only to have them take that training and go off somewhere else

Stability and a family to support are things an employer may consider when hiring someone. Not to say a married person is more stable. Most likely the opposite

Because employers see married men as more stable than single men. Also they feel they have to work harder to support a family.

Married men are more stable and less likely to just jump up and leave at the first offer of 25 cents more per hour.

Marital staus is not a legal qualification question in most states. If you are asking why a lot of good jobs go to men that happen to be married, it genreally has to do with personal commitment level, maturity, stability, and experience.

Married men are seen as more stable and more responsible. Wife at home & likelihood of children makes married men financially responsible even if wife also works.

Because single men don't have the same responsibilities and are more choosy on what job they are willing to take so they end up not having one and complaining about it. Could be why they are single..lol.
