It depends on the TV type. if it's a LCD type the mounting holes are numbered in 100 X 100mm 200 X 200mm VESA type. Most small LCDs up to 26" are 100mm VESA. 30" and up 200mm. VESA .
Get an appropriate wall bracket that will support the weight. usually Sanus Systems have the most assortment. If the TV is a Plasma use an official bracket these are heavier than LCD ones are are designed with a universal fit from 37" to 60 ": TV sizes for most brands.
After you found the proper bracket, find the wood studs in the wall with a stud finder, you can get them at Home depot or Lowe's. If the TV is larger than 26" you'll need a second person to help you with the installation.

IKEA sells a tv stand that is designed for mounting on the wall. I am sure if you search a bit you will find some other stores sell them too. They come in various sizes. Not too expensive - and great space saver.

You need to buy a telvision wall mount the size of your TV. It usually comes with a back wall plate, a couple brackets, a couple lock bars, and a couple tv rails to hold it on. Just screw in and go =)

Actually you can purchase the hardware at WAl mart, tv stores, etc.. and mount it to the wall. I would not suggest doing it without the proper hareware because it could cause a large mess on your wall
