It depends on how urgent their need for employees. It could be within the next few days, it may be a few weeks.
What happens to your application also depends on the business. If its a retail store, it gets reviewed by either the manager or a higher up to see if you match their qualifications. This could take about a week depending on who has to look it over.
If you're very interested in getting the job, call them on Wednesday and inquire about your application; be sure to mention you're interest in the job. Calling today would be a bit too soon.

Normally it takes between 7-10 days, depending on number of applications they get. It is completely acceptable for you to call them about 3-5 working days after the interview. Basically when you call ask for the same person that interviewed you. Let him/her know how you thought the interview went, you're looking forward to working there and then ask if a decision has been made on who they are hiring. If it's not you this time-don't burn your bridges, ask if they will be interviewing any time soon? Remember the squeaky hinge gets the oil---there is nothing wrong with you following up every couple of days unless they say you're out of the running . I worked as a job developer for several years and this is what the employers expect. Good luck!!!!!!
Remember it pays to put in alot of applications. Also talk to friends and relatives to see if they know of anyone. Just because you take this job it could mean it's a stepping stone to bigger and better things.

I have found that most jobs don't call you back anymore. They are too overwhelmed with the responses they may get from the web. I would wait a week and then call them to see what the status is. If they tell you that you are not hired, ask about their impressions of you. Find out what they liked, didn't like, and what you can do better next time.
Once you submit an application and have interviewed if they like you many things will start. The Human Resource department will start checking your references, work history and salary history. If other checks are needed (i.e. criminal background check, certification verfication), they will do this as well.

If you were responding to a job ad in the papers, the practice these days is for the employer or the recruitment agency to screen the application off-line and contact only the parties whom they wish to follow-up on. Some advertisements will indicate whether unsuccessful candidates will be notified. There's no harm in calling to verify, mid-week after your application - although there's no guarantee that you'd be able to get past the operator.

It depends on the job & where you at! Like if you're applying for a secretarial position at a Mid-Manhattan law firm; they're gonna have hundreds, litterally, applying. OTOH if you trying to get a job as a waitress, in a bar on a backroad somewhere, they'll prolly hire you, or pass ya up, on the spot!

If they don't call within 7 days of your submitting the application, you need to call them. Let them know you really want the job.

It depends on how badly theyneed employees as to when they call you back. They usually don't call if they aren't going to hire you. You might want to call by tuesday or wednesday 'just to see if anyone has had an opportunity to review your application yet'. Good Luck!!!

I would give it a few days. Then I would call to make an appointment for an interview. This will show you are serious and have ambition. Good luck!

Apps are usually kept for 6 months. call them, and let them know that you are interested, just once. If you don't hear anything by 6 months...go re-apply!
