Well, if 'dodgy' just means poor quality, it can't make your computer quite as fast as the same quantity of high-quality ram would. If you mean nonworking, though...

Blue screening, primarily right in the middle of a program. Also can cause 'insufficient memory' messages, even when you don't have many resource-consuming programs running. Not to mention overall slow preformance.

Blue screens of death are the most common. PC locking up, random crashes followed by a blue screen of death and a memory hex dump. That's just a few but are the most common.

are you asking how to tell if the ram is bad ? pc runs slower can act oddly especially when being pushed to memory limits.
