aparently sleeping on your left side increases blood flow and its very good for you and the baby so just sleep on either side NEVER on your back and putting a pillow inbetween your legs i found out HELPS ALOT!!!

I think I read that at about 16 weeks you should stop sleeping on your back... it's all about how big the baby is an whether or not it will cut off your circulation. My strategies for sleeping (I'm 28 weeks) have been that I put a pillow behind my back so I can't really roll all the way over - or halfway thru the night I prop a bunch of pillows behind me and sleep in a half sitting up position - like if you had your feet stretched out on the couch. that way the baby can't cut off the circulation in your legs. And believe me, you don't want to do that. I've woken up absolutely tingly all over - my arms, legs... it's freaky. And not good for the baby.

I am 23 months preggo...my doc says the best position is on the left side...can't remember why, but I think it has something to do with BP. After 20 weeks you should not sleep flat on your back as this puts pressure and can decrease blood flow to the baby. I start out on my left side, and just flip flop from each side several times a night. I also use a belly wedge which I find to REALLY help with comfort at this point. I will occassionally prop it under one butt cheek and lay with most of my weight on the other cheek, so that I am NOT flat on my back...like when I am reading before bed or something.

The very best position is to sleep on your left side because it is better for blood flow. Sleeping on your right side is okay, too and gives your left side a break. Sleeping on your back is bad because it puts pressure on your aorta and vena cava which carry blood to your organs and lower body. It also causes the baby to get less blood and oxygen. Also, a pillow between the knees is helpful.

I found the most comfortable position to be on the left or right side, with a body pillow tucked between my knees extending to my head. I sort of curled up around the pillow. When my left side would get uncomfortable, I'd roll over onto my right. The most important thing to remember is to keep the body pillow between your knees for back support and underneath your tummy for baby support. It worked for me through two pregnancies and two great big babies!

Well I'm 17 weeks and i already have bad back pain. I read that the best way to sleep is on your left side because it relieves the pressure on your heart. The back is not a good idea because your growing uterus can cut off air supply to you and your baby. They also said putting a pillow under you lower back or between your legs is helpful too. You should goo look on ivilliage.com under parenting and pregnancy, there is alot of good information there.

My Dr always said sleep on your left side because it's better for digestion and easier on the baby. Sooo anytime I would wake up on my back or my right side I'd freak out! What I finally did during my last 3 months, I would lie down on my left side, put I pillow behind my back, one between my knees and then a wedge (bought it at target) under my belly. That was very comfortable!

In the first trimester, whatever sleeping position works is okay, though it is helpful to get used to sleeping on your side. It may help to know that sleeping on the right side allows gravity to help empty the normal stomach acids, preventing nighttime heartburn. In the later trimesters, sleeping on the left side is best. A major vein in your body, the inferior vena cava, passes along the right side of your spinal column. Sleeping on your back or right side allows your weighty uterus to compress this vessel and slow blood flow to your baby.

I was really comfortable sleeping on my right side when I was pregnant.

None to be honest :) but lying on your left side with a pillow between you legs has been best for me. It always seems to be a little more comfortable when one of my legs is proped up against something as well.
