After looking after my elderly Aunt who has Alzhiemers, her Grand children have accused me (not face to face, but in a note) of stealing from her I have My Aunts Bank statements for the past six years with no indication of theft or mismanagement of her money. Do I have grounds for suing?

It is very difficult to PREVAIL In a character-defamation suit. You have to prove that you were damaged in some way - for instance, your friends dumped you or you lost your job. Then you have to prove falsity. Most of the time it's more trouble than it's worth to bring legal action.

If you sue them for defomation of charachter.

You must prove that your public reputation has been irreversably damaged to the point that you would be unable to get a job or to be bonded for a job.

This sounds like something that will stay within the family and you therefore have not been slandered in public or in the press.

Wow..that suxs..I would talk to a lawyer and ask him..Sounds like you would be able to especially if they did something that made you guys go to court or are they just saying this..if they are just saying it then I don't think so but if they have got a lawyer and have been trying to get what the say the things you stole..then yes I would get a lawyer and go from there..Good Luck

That would be a paternity suit as you inquired about "deformation". Was it defamation you want to know about?

first of all it is called defamation of character...... libel slander....... and it will only work if you can prove that their statements against you have caused you some sort of monetary damage
