Those aren't gravel trucks, they're cement trucks and they spin constantly so the concrete doesn't harden and set inside the truck.

Are you sure that what you are looking at is a gravel truck, and not a concrete truck? A concrete truck is exactly like you describe, and they turn because they are mixing the concrete. There is no reason to do that with just plan gravel, which could be hauled in a regular dump truck.

you are thinking of a concrete truck, not a gravel truck. gravel is hauled in dump trucks. the concrete truck turns its drum to keep the concrete from hardening before it can be poured. it is shaped like a cone to keep the concrete from spilling out.

a concret truck is shaped like that to mixe the material for segregating and setting up in the truck and it is loaded for above so there is another reason it is shaped like that and they are conical because a square wouldnt make much sense plus if it is round there arnt as many corners for concret to set up in

I think you mean Cement trucks, don't you?
& if you do then it is because it keeps the cement from drying. Sorry if I didn't answer question correctly, but good luck in finding the correct answer!
