I don't think that myspace is the problem. The problem comes in when people use myspace for the wrong reasons. Most people use it to keep in touch with their friends, or to make new friends. People also use it to promote bands and comedy acts, etc. Perhaps what should be done is some sort of screening against sexual predators, as well as screening for underage users. I see lots of youngsters on there who add a few years onto their real age in order to sign up at myspace. Also, parents need to know what their kids are up to online, and kids need to be taught about what to do and not do, and what to say and not say while online. Myspace isn't the only site that predators use. If you watch any Dateline "To Catch A Predator" news reports, you'll see that chatrooms from all over the place are used, even strictly teen chatrooms. I think that if strict screening was done *some* of these crimes could be wiped out.
So..to sum it all up....it's not the site that is causing the problem. Some of the users are there for the wrong reasons.

MySpace has been in the news a lot lately. I believe that MySpace is no different from any blog site. I just think that since MySpace is the biggest site they have the most exposure in the news. As long as kids stay safe and don't disclose any personal information with people online they should be fine. I only add people who i know and I never set up meetings or anything online. Be Safe Everyone!

Not really. Myspace and similar sites are avenues for self-expression, but unfortunately they are also easy ways for pedophiles to prey on unsuspecting children and for some people to take advantage of more vulnerable, naive people. Myspace has been unfairly criticized in the media because so many crimes have indeed been associated with it, but these crimes have happened to people long before myspace was created. Just having email, IM, or other chat capabilities sets people up as easy targets if they are not careful.
It is the abuse of the technology by predators rather than the technology itself that is wrong.

Yeah, it is the perfect avenue for perverts and pedophiles to track down young girls and get more information about them, which can then be used to get closer to them.
There was a news story recently about how many pedophiles use MySpace as a starting point for finding underage girls, and it was shocking. Many times it ended in the girl being raped, molested, etc.

I don't see much wrong except that there are alot of dangers associated it it (cyberbullying, online predators, etc) the same could be said about e-mail and instant messaging, however. But at the same time, I don't see too much right with it either, because people are wasting alot of time on it.

I think its OK. It's just a way for people to promote themselves or to feel like they have friends.
The pedophiles are not as rampant as the media makes it out to be. And even so, minors can adjust their setting so that their profile is set to private and only viewable by the people they select.
