You can't just make it stop but you can be on pills that allow you to get your period only a few times a year. But your 13 and not sexually active so I would not suggest going on birth control yet. At your age it would do you more harm than good.

You need to talk with your mom first, and probably your doctor. If you are having bad cramps, the pill may help a lot.
But you'll have to have a mom that believes that is the reason, and that she can trust you to not be sexually active before you should be. Depending on how cool your mom is, you will have to take this idea into consideration as the two of you talk.
It's a pretty dumb thing perhaps, because teens that want to have sex, will do so and better to be on the pill, then get pregnant. But there are still a lot of parents that think that supporting birth control will MAKE their teen have sex.
Also all drugs have potential risks and side effects. At your age the risks of the pill are very, very low, and yet that doesn't mean there aren't any. It is a good idea to not take any medication you don't absolutely need.
Also the pill may not agree with you. I had one daughter who spotted non-stop and another who got really queasy from them. From what I understand these types of side effects are common and usually go away in a few months, but in the meantime, you may be annoyed.
Taking it just to bleed less often is probably not a great reason, but that would still be a decision between you, your parents and the doctor.
Learn to use tampons if you haven't already. That makes it a lot more comfortable.

Yeah gurl, we all hate our periods, but it's all part of life. But your young, and it could mess you up, expecially since your not having sex or anything now. Just deal with it for now... you haven't even had the worst of it yet, since your still so young. Birth control, it can do all of that.... but it doesn't have the same effects on everyone. Everyone is different. For me, I did the whole birth control pill thing when I was about 17/18 and it didn't work out for me. I actually got my period for 5 months straight... that was horrible let me tell you. Some people just can't do it, and others can. But there are also serious risks involved with taking birth control.... and I know someone who can't get pregnant now because she started taking them at a young age. So think about it clearly, talk to a doctor or something.

Hey..yes, it is true that birth control pills do limit your period, but it can also be harmful to you depending on how long you are on a "cycle" Just think of the birth control pill as a sink plug. You are holding everything off until the end of the cycle, in which you have your period. When the end of the cycle comes, you have your period for anywhere from 3 to 8 days. in that time your period may be heavier. Your period is something us lucky girls just have to deal with...its not fun, but it doesnt last forever.

The only way a doctor would give you a prescription for birth control at your age is if your cramps were so severe they were interfering with your life, like you had to miss school because the pain was so bad.
Periods aren't fun but they're only once a month so just stock up on Midol or Pamprin, buy pads and/or tampons and just take it one day at a time.

Birth control pills have been taken to lessen cramping and other symptoms yes, they can also regulate your period so you know when it's coming and how long it will last etc. You will still have a period, most pills, 90% anyway, but there is a new one I heard that changes your entire cycle, anyway, don't take it to get rid of your period all together. Bleeding every month means you're HEALTHY!!! I know it seems like an inconvenience and can make things uncomfortable but welcome to growing up and dealing with it.

OK, heres the deal, You are only 13 and sadly your period is gonna be around for a while. You will have to get used to it and learn to deal with it. Most women have/had felt the same way you did when it started for them too. Its uncomfortable, boring, painful, bloaty, embarassing at times, inconvenient, etc.
My point is... its only for a few days and I doubt a doctor would help you to end it completely, especially at your age. You'll find more effective ways of dealing with it as you age. Try a portable heating pad and perhaps some (teen) midol. When that fails eat chocolate. Good Luck

I'm on the nuva ring and my period is much lighter..I just stated skipping mine.( you can do that by using them back to back) However some women have increased mood swings on birth control. Go see a gyn a see what the recommend for you. Remember when you are sexually active you going to need birth control, how many years do you plan on being on it...I think 10 is the limit, I could be wrong though there may not be a limit. DON'T SMOKE.

Unfortunately, its called life. You are gonna have one whether you want to or not. Get used to it. However, if you want to delay or shorten the number of times you have it there are other pills besides birth control. I don't reccommend it because of side effects. You just don't take pills to stop a period. Besides I'm pretty sure a doctor or your parents wouldn't let you take birth control or any pills for that matter to stop a period. Use your head.
