The American buffalo is also known as American bison and is a distant relative to the Water Buffalo and African Buffalo. They are a wild species of bovine or cattle. Today you can find many ranches raising buffalo as it is thought that is lower in fat and cholesterol than beef which has led to the development of beefalo, a fertile cross-breed of bison and domestic cattle.

To answer your question I would think that for the most part the bison bull(male bison are also called bulls) would be stronger than a beef bull or dairy bull. It would depend on the age and genetics of the animal though. The average weight for the American Wood bison bull is thought to be 2,000 pounds while Chianina can average around 3,000 pounds. So, I would say that the strength between bison and continental breeds could be very close.

Actually there *are* buffalo. The African buffalo is one of the most dangerous of large animals.
The American Bison is probably stronger, bigger and can do immense damage when confined where he don't want to be.
However with those there's no way to truly measure or test stregnth so it's guessing at best. The water buffalo as well as the bovine bull has been used for draft purposes. It's said the water buffalo is more agile than cattle and better suited to wet muddy areas but cattle work faster and are better on dry land.

Bulls of some Continental breeds are stronger than a male buffalo.
When I say Continental breeds I mean the ones that were obtained in Continental Europe, not the UK.
Examples of that would be Marcheggiana, Chianina, Asturiana de los Valles, Retinta, etc

Technically there are no buffaloes - they are extinct. You are probably talking about their close cousin, the bison.
