No, Maris is not in the HOF, and probably will not ever be.

His career numbers of 275 Home Runs and 851 RBI are not Hall of Fame caliber for an outfielder.

He did win 2 MVP awards (which obviously means he was NOT a "one year wonder" as a lot of people think), but he was an All Star for only four seasons....that's not a good total either for a Hall of Fame candidate.

His .217 World Series batting average didn't help his case either... He did hit 6 World Series Home Runs, and he played for seven Pennant Winners (and three World Championship teams).

Maris died in 1985, and did receive some significant Hall of Fame vote totals during the 2 or 3 years following his death, but never made the 75% total needed to be inducted.

As a native North Dakotan, I would love to say that Maris should be in Cooperstown. Unfortunately I can't. Because he had two excellent seasons, and ten that were average or slightly above. Except for his 1961 season, he led the league in RBI once. Never did he even hit 40 home runs in any other year. His highest batting average was .283. These are not Hall of Fame totals. So the Maris memorabilia in Cooperstown will have to be sufficient. Thanks, Chip, for mentioning the Roger Maris museum in Fargo, North Dakota. I have visited it several times. There's lots of pictures, uniforms, and a video you can watch at any time. However, even North Dakotas don't seem to appreciate it, because I've never seen more than two other people at the same time. .

No. Roger has never been elected to the Hall of Fame. His lifetime stats are probably not good enough though he was a terrific outfielder and had several great seasons with the NY Yankees. He broke Babe Ruth's home run record in 1961 with 61 homers.

No he is not enshrined in the Hall of Fame. Some of his artifacts are on display there, (just like artifacts of Pete Rose), but he is not, nor will he ever be on a plaque unless the standards go waaaaaay down. He hit 1/4 of his career homers in one season, and while he was a good fielder, his career stats do not merit inclusion. That would be the equivilent of the NFL including Tom Dempsey in the hall of fame just because he once kicked an NFL record 63 yard field goal.

He isn't. Many believe he should be: two MVP awards, held the single season home run record for 37 years. Go to the link below, it's the Baseball Hall of Fame's OFFICIAL list of inducted players. You'll notice that it's listed alphabetically, and Maris is not on there.

Of course he is...when Mark McGuire was chasing Maris's Home Run record he wanted the Maris family to get his bat from the Hall of Fame so he could hold it the night he broke the record.

All the ex-Yankees should be in the Hall of Fame!!

Nope, Maris is not in the Hall... the MLB hall of fame does have various Maris memoriabilia to commemorate his achievement of hitting 61 homers in one season, but really his numbers weren't hall of fame worthy... Career batting average of .260, less than 300 career hrs, only 800+ RBI, and he never hit more than 39 hr in a season besides 61.

He was a pretty common player.

no, he might have his bat and other assorted memoribilia in the hall but his overall numbers year in and year out were insufficient to merit a hall of fame career.
