Inevitably, it occurs when there are group emails. Is is a BCC or some kind of server based group?

hey - some good answers, but i actually botched my own question. in fact, the issue is that the sender's address is listed in the to box as well. so in outlook, it reads: From - person@yahoo.com and To - person@yahoo.com even though the email comes to my email address (not person@yahoo.com). sorry for the confusion. thanks

It could be "spoofing." Maybe someone wants people to think the emails are coming from you, but more likely they just don't want people to know they're the sender. (And take the advice of the folks who answered before me.)

Change your password - Better safe than sorry. I purposely put my own email address as a contact, so If I do get hacked I can see what's being sent to others! And rectify it before it affects anybody else!

the spammers "spoof" your address so that they always have a new address to send from. this helps them bypass the spam filters. it also means that you can end up getting your legitimate emails blocked by other people's filters since your address has been esentially "hijacked" by the spammer.

if you have norton anti-spam, there is a setting under configure/email/myaddresses where you can add your own email to prevent this from re-occuring. good luck.

Not good man. If you can change you email address, and run a full virus scan. At least run full scan including spywear scan. And change all passwords. After the scan.

even i hv faced this problem and it indiacates that ,
those mails which come with any mail id instead of name might hv infected by virus specially when we get the msg with our own id as senders id , be alert and make use of antivirus and stay away from such type of mails and if possible do not open it .

You have been spoofed. Do not open it, keep your anti-virus program up to date (and run a scan) plus run anti-spyware software as well.

I get them too, sometimes. I don't really know what it is, but I delete them right away.

I don't want to risk opening anything that I don't know what it is!
