When shaking hands, always consider both persons, age, sex, strength, position (status) and so forth. For a man shaking hands with another man, the firm hand shake is the norm. When shaking hands with a woman, ordinarily she will be less strong, so naturally a man will not use as firm a handshake, firm but not hearty. When shaking hands with a child, we naturally will lighten up also.

So ordinarily, a handshake is about the same, all things considered. Check eye contact, check your smile. These are even more important.

Not from what I have learned from grandma, you shake hands in a similar fashion except that "the shake"for woman by a man is grasping less firm and foreword towards the finger's and the mans thumb is grasped over her knuckles. I hope that explains it properly. 0r have a gentleman shake your hand in showing how to properly have this greeting done. Also: some women prefer to have a handshake like that of a man.
I believe men in general has a sense of which shake by observing a woman's demeanor in the approach.

Probably not. In my experience, men typically expect to give and receive a firm handshake from other men, while expecting women to be more delicate. This doesn't mean that all men shake hands in the same way. My father raised me to give a firm handshake because it's a sign of confidence and yet I've shaken many men's hands and been the recipient of limp hand-flops.

In the essence they grab our hand and together move in an up and down motion....yes. I have never felt like a man shook my hand like I was a man. They are aware and gentle.

Because he is afraid that if he kisses her hand, like a proper gentleman should...he'll either look like a seedy creep, or a sexist git. Shame really.
