Or do we just make a big deal out of him because he is local? I could go either way, some songs are really good others, yuck.

I am from Oregon and really like his older stuff, but some of the newer stuff is kinda weird. Cherry Bomb is the bomb :)

It's a little of both. Local people tend to see their local stars or heroes bigger than other people do. I like his music. He has written some great songs. Larry Bird is a basketball hero everywhere, but in Indiana and Massachusettes, I do believe he is seen as a god. It's the same thing. Other people see him as great, but the people from his area see him as even greater.

I am from Indiana and they tried to have a concert here in Tennessee but only about 250 showed up for it! It was a small venue 1200 or so and he would have easily sold out in Indiana but here in Tennessee the promoter lost money!

I enjoy music by John 'Cougar' Melencamp. Some are good, some not to my taste. I find that true with all artists. I have never lived in Indiana.

Years ago, I liked John Cougar - not a fan of John Melencamp.

I live is PA, and we like him. It depends on the type of music you like, if your only into pop or rap, you prolly don't. But I'm a rock fan and he's a staple in my Ipod.

We also love Springteen even though he's from Jersey.

Yeah, R.O.C.K. in the USA! As you said, some songs are good and some are not.

I remember when he used to be referred to as "John Cougar Mellencamp."

We hear his music mostly on "golden oldies" radio stations.
