DSL is dedicated to just Your connection. When they say your connection is 1.5 Mbps then that is probably almost exactly what you get. Cable, on the other hand, has the potential to be faster (and more reliable in my experience) but the bandwidth is essentially shared with other people around you (in a manner of speaking). But on the bright side, cable is not dependent upon, nor weakened by, your distance from any particular 'switch'.
here is a good comparison link to give you information and explain the what's and why's of the differences:

I perfer cable. I get a nice discount through my cable company and now I have the phone hooked into my cable broadband. It all works nicely together and I have next to no outs, where my family who uses DSL has had about 10 outs for every one of mine.

I on the other hand, had nothing but problems with cable and have had 100% satisfaction with DSL. I have 4 PCs running on the same connection and have had no speed problems or bandwidth concerns.

Yes to both.
DSL has more restrictions than cable. You must live close enough to the switch. Your top speed is lower than cable.
Cable has a few issues though too. The cable line is a shared resource. As more people in your area get on line, you may notice speed degradation. It also usually costs a bit more ($10 or so a month).

Dsl is better because with cable its more complicated and more expensive. p.s Dsl goes fast and can compete with cable.
