Okay for those of you who have READ the Lord of the Rings, what was your favourite bit?

It's hard to pin down a specific occurrence, although Rivendell, the Pellenor fields, and the Scouring of the Shire are all good. Although in the scene where Orthanc has fallen, and the battle weary Fellowship comes upon Merry and Pippin stuffing themselves and enjoying a smoke, THAT was funny! I enjoyed it thoroughly for the themes it contains: loyalty, courage, self-sacrifice; honor, friendship, the list goes on.

I liked the part when Merry and Pippin were captured by the orcs and started to scare Grishnakh by talking about Gollum. I thought it was funny how an orc could be so scared over a half starved... half hobbit thing. When I went to see the movie, I felt so depressed that they cut that part out! It was still good though. The book's way better and longer! YAY!

I've been re-reading Lord of the Rings every year for forty years and I'll be damned if I can reduce the experience down to ONE favorite bit.

Goodness, that's a hard one. It could be the influence of the mouvies, but of the top of my head I like bits that were NOT in them. I loved the chapter where the hobbits meet Bombadil. Very wierd and not surprisingly different from the rest of the book.

In The Return of the King, when Sam saves Froto and battles with that monster guarding the path into Mordor.

I think my favorite part is when Faramir releases Frodo and Sam without hesitation.

I know it's simple but I like when the Ents come into the picture. They're so wild.
